Title: Starkey's Black Stage 2+ DSG ED30
Post by: starkey on January 12, 2017, 05:13:51 pm
After months of searching for a low mileage candy white edition 30, I gave in and purchased a slightly higher mileage black one a few weeks ago. Only picture I have of the car at the moment:

Very nice low owner example with pretty much every factory extra apart from the sunroof, and lots of history!

Car is currently stage 1 APR, but other than that fairly standard apart from the VW Racing springs.

Plan to get the car stage 2+ ready for the spring, but the modding bug has already started :signLOL:

All I have at the moment but there will be plenty of updates, instagram is starkeey if you fancy giving me a follow :happy2:

black is a good colour :D

Ouch on loosing your arm! I had 10 years on bikes and managed to escape unscathed. Trackdays, communiting, touring - the works. Bought a mountain bike as a replacement and promptly shattered my collarbone which is now held together with 9 screws and a plate!

have folllowed you on instagram :D

Only had it on a day but testing it last night seemed decent. Not to noisy, but does make a nice noise when you open it up.

Looks & sounds a fantastic example. White is even more maintenance than black, so , IMHO you've a great car right there.

Bought my 3-dr Steel grey in 2012 on 47k, now at 80k, so not low mileage, but average for year. I'd love to mothball it, but they're too good to not be driven!

Yours looks very well - look forward to the next updates. I'm 4 years in on mine with a few improvements - VWR springs & Milltek were the first on mine.

Cheers, yeah this one is on 96k but has plenty of history to back it up so I won't have to spend out on maintenance for a while!

Was going to get coilovers for it, but tbh love the way it sits on the VWR springs - going to have a turbo back exhaust done in a few weeks instead :signLOL:

Great looking car mate and looks great in black...

Recently purchased a golf myself and have looking at the vwr springs, just wanted to ask if the car sits level with regards to not being arse end down or nose heavy?

Thanks in advance and all the best with the car.

Car sits pretty level from what I can see :happy2:

Not much to update, purchased a US spec grill which arrived with terrible paintwork so ended up getting it done again - might aswell have just had mine smoothed and painted! Here it is fitted after being repainted..

So the car is now running APR Stage 2+ after fitting everything. Just had a custom TSR 3" R32 style exhaust done as well so my edition 30 rear bumper is now for sale if anyone's interested.

Very nice :) good progress! Who mapped it and what did it make ?

It's an APR map as the car was previously APR stage 1, so it was only £120 to upgrade the software!

It made 340bhp/362ftlb on the TSR rollers, but this was before I had the full 3" catback and still running the stock intercooler. Waiting to get a welly cooler setup when funds allow so hopefully figures will be closer to the 360 mark.

Love this :congrats:, sometimes makes me think I would only swap my TR for a black ED30 but getting it too look like this is a different thing...saying that, where did you get the red centre caps?

Thanks  :happy2:  I've actually just replaced the centre caps as they went all pink, but got some new red ones on ebay.

Quite a bit happening to the car at the moment, just had a welly cooler fitted by TSR with hard pipes and finally got some exhaust tips. Due to have the DSG mapped on Wednesday! Also picked up some relentless coilovers so looking forward to getting them fitted.

So had the car on the rollers again at TSR after having the 3" exhaust fitted and wellycooler, was previously 333bhp / 362ft/lb with an ambient temp of 9 degrees and due to the DSG not being mapped the revs max at 6105rpm. It made 348bhp / 372ft/lb on a 30 degree day with the revs maxing at 6105rpm again with the additional hardware. Hopefully be looking at some higher numbers when the DSG's mapped and on a colder day!

Also picked up some bargain brakes from a MK7 GTI PP with discs and pads for £160, in excellent condition as well!

how much bhp does a cooler make ?
very clean well looked after ed30

Yeah extra BHP down to the full 3" exhaust and wellycooler. Will post up again when its had the DSG map to compare again.

Not sure what bhp a cooler makes, but less restrictions = more power

Had the car back from a stage 2 paint correction and protected using GTechniq c2v3, and also had the MK7 GTI PP calipers fitted which are a straight bolt on using HEL braided lines and bled all the calipers with ATE Typ 200 (well recommended as mine looked like it had never been changed)!

That paintwork is sublime. I really need to get round to mine!

Let us know how you get on with the PP calipers. I've got the same setup, and find them pretty damn good for a straightforward OEM bolt-on.

Haven't updated this in a while! The coilovers are good however a droplink did break within a month as the adjustable bit kept coming loose.

Haven't done much to the car since but took it to a local drag event last weekend and managed a 13.22 1/4 mile and 113mph terminal in the wet.

Yes I still own this!

Haven't updated this in ages, but had a lot of stuff done in 2018.

Engine rebuilt, fully forged with Wossner pistons and ZRP rods, head refurbished and R8 valve springs installed, injectors refurbished pretty much everything refreshed due to ringland failure on piston 1. Also had the wheels refurbed in shadow chrome and a load of other maintenance bits.

Plan this year is to get the hybrid k04 fitted (Turbo Technics K16/K04 450bhp capable hybrid) and hopefully make some good power.
