I can't remember if I read somewhere if it can be done with two parts instead of the original three mentioned.
What's the latest way to do this mod on a mk5? Has the cold reliability improved yet or just a summer time mod?
-
Even in the summer it plays up tbh as I've had mine now for a year. Don't know about the parts but you require the struts numb stops for certain. The other I'm unsure about as with the balls of the struts fit the gti ones!. .
-
Yeah had a feeling it's quite unreliable and that would likely get more annoying expecting it to work and failing... Mhmm
-
I've had it on mine for a few years.
In winter the boot pops but need to be manually nudged to lift open.
Still don't need to use the boot handle, just a quick nudge with your finger on lip of boot which is still useful if you have your hands full.
In summer it works fine.

Still looking for these then?:
2x Skoda Fabia Gas Struts 6Y0 827 550 C
2x Scirocco (sprung) Pump stops 1K8 827 761 D.
2x Seat Leon Ball pins 1J6 827 439 A

It won't fail but not a great mod although it does pop and I don't need to touch that dirty badge lol
Problem I have is pushing the boot back down as it is difficult
Fc** me all these meds making me type weird words and sounds so stupid even to me 😂😂😂

Also had mine for a good time now.. Mine never had any problem, not even when it's cold outside.
I like it alot! :)

Same list of parts as above or did you get something different?
-
Same list, however I did order some struts from FEBI instead of genuine Skoda ones. I've only bought other brand since I hear from a few other skoda guys that they have a tendens to rust rather fast.
Mine from FEBI stil looks like new and opens op every single time it should.
-
I got mine as a Kit here in the US...https://www.ecstuning.com/b-assembled-by-ecs-parts/hatch-pop-kit/5k0898004/
After properly setting the adjustable stop bumpers...it only opens completely when sitting out in the Sun or being very hot. I don't mind having to add a slight tug on the hatch the rest of the time because as mentioned...do not need to handle the latch, as can be done at the edge of the hatch instead. I've had to replace the bump stops as both of the inner springs broke last year.

Maybe the febi struts are stronger hence you don't have issues with opening
-
Yeah this got me thinking to get some FEBI ones, might be that third party ones are a bit sturdier mhmm
-
Yeah me thinks
Thanks to Chris for the info

I'm picky when it comes to parting out stuff for my car. I bought the FEBI ones since some guys told me the genuine Skoda ones rust to quickly. They didn't tell me that the FEBI ones are better or anything else - I just bought them since these was the ones I could get my hands on fastest
They have new seen all sorts of wheather, and even stayed 2 days lifted with out making any noise when I closed the tailgate after the 2 days. Don't think genuine VAG struts would have closed without noise after staying up for 2 days hehe.
-
Will you confirm if this is the FEBI part number actually on yours? pn: febi 31652

Uh oh it's on Amazon Prime...
Struts (http://amzn.to/2yZVX0y) - £19.17 x2 = £38.34
Ball Pins (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381516808221) - £9.99 x2 = £19.98
Rocco Stops (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152672683963) - £18.49
Total = £76.81
This isn't good for avoiding impulse buys. Though the price going up compared to before is sad.
Edit: Are the ballpins also known as WHT006580?
Edit2: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-volkswagen-audi-parts/strut-ball-pin-priced-each/wht006580/ seems to think the 1J6 827 439 A were superceded by these...

oooh this is great news. good tip!

How does this mod work when opening the locks from the inside switch on the drivers door, to open rear passenger door. Will the boot open when this button is activated?
-
No, will only pop from the fob
-
👍
-
If you have the 3 button fob with boot release do you still need to enable anything via vagcom?
-
If your boot unlocks via the button now, then you won't need to do anything extra in the coding. It wasn't enabled on my 07 ED30, but it's a simple tick in the long coding in VCDS.
-
Yes you will need to enable it in vcds to release the boot mechanism via the fob to allow boot to pop open. 55plate 2006 reg here
-
Can you lads still open the hatch from the actual hatch handle (badge)? Mines only remote now, which although great, sometimes I'd like an option to use the designated handle too.
Cheers
-
Yup works fine both as a regular handle or remote popped.
-
Also worth noting
If your boot catch ever fails your boot will be left wide open, had this happen a few weeks ago.Luckily i wasnt far from TPS.
