Title: White MK6 GTI Edition 35
Post by: chrisr763 on July 28, 2015, 02:15:30 pm
Out with the old - In with the newer!

Woke up one day and it hit me that my MK5 could start costing lots of money! It was on hydraullics, Works VS-XX show wheels and CH's as dailys.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs516%2Fchrisr766%2F1958525_10153940978360537_2017129603_n-EDIT_zps26d2edf0.jpg&hash=57f7bb388fd0027be3dfe3ed07f4a771ed73dcc6)

Started looking at BMW's, didnt think I could afford the 10k one I was looking at. Then ended up spending way more on this Edition 35. @GS WAX (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6099) had looked after this thing! Coated in Cquartz and literally no money spared on keeping this beauty in good condition. Don't feel worthy! Only 25K Miles on the clock
Few of Garrie's pics, I've not managed to take many myself!  :ashamed:

Gloss black defuser, should have come like this from standard to match the mirrors!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fchrisr766%2FMK6_ED35%2Flatest040_zpsf7gsyw1j.jpg&hash=12a49e2eb5c212f5f2d8933d9604d289c35bc800)
Extra Edition 35 Badge for the boot, as there isnt much to show its heritage otherwise!

Maniacs paddles

Not sure how to improve on this yet. The whole point of a new car was to build one show worthy. Put it on airride and some killer wheels. Now I cant bring myself to do it just yet - The car's too good and goes like sh*t off a shovel, its only Stage 1. We shall see!  :happy2:

Spec List:

• Stage 1 DSG Revo Map

• 19" Optional Extra Glendale Wheels
• RNS510
• Reverse camera
• Front & Rear parking sensors
• Power folding wing mirrors

Great buy! Lovely colour. Seems to be well spec'd. What other specs does it have?

Not fond on that colour of the wheels. Maybe anthracite or silver...

Really well spec'd indeed! :happy2:

Maybe you could sell the wheels for a good price and that would help getting a new sport exhaust.

Installed a P3 Cars Gauge a few days back. Very easy to install and i like having access to some extra features you wouldn't normally have access too unless you have polarfis.

Tested the 0-60 function on a private road (very handy that!) and clocked 5.66. About a second under standard. Not too fussed about this figure, but its nice to know the map to Stage 1 has made a difference.

Not my cup of tea Air-ride, Stretched tyres etc but it looks like a really nice car!

Hope it serves you well.

Yeah they seem pretty rare! Literally only seen a handfull around.

It's not to everyone's taste! I'm still undecided! Stretched tyres - I'd only ever strech a tiny amount, not like some!

Thanks  :happy2:

My ed 30 in the back ground here.

Actually sat in your 35 when I brought mine of GSWax.

Can def vouch for him treating his cars with care. Mine was like brand new when I picked it up.

Very nice example 35 for sure.  :congrats:

The 35 was coated in cquartz which I would highly recommend. Its such a nice coating and lasts ages!!

Not sure how much it would be to get it done again though...  :ashamed:

Can I suggest this keyring? I got it from ebay because it showed a discrete GTI symbol and was advertised as such. When I opened the box I saw it was specific for the Edition 35. Unfortunately it's not new but if I had your Ed. 35, I'd use it.

I'm sure once it's lowered a little it will look totally different and more in line with what I want. I mean it looks epic as is!

Thinking lower it a little, OZ ultralaggeras and some big brakes. BCS power flow to let everyone know I'm coming

Tempting for my spare key! I've already got this keyring :) it is epic!
I got this for my daily key (1KM087013A6J1):
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.avtoformula.ru%2F_upload%2Fdc3c%2FVAG%2F1KM0870136J1.jpg&hash=5081f9ceedcdc9fd6fba6d863b701c131d1b8e36)

And this one for my spare key (1K10870103ZR):
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.i-firme.fr%2FWebRoot%2Fce_fr3%2FShops%2F236444%2F4DDA%2F9355%2F7F9F%2F6ACC%2F151A%2FC0A8%2F8007%2FF89E%2Fporte_cle_VW_GTI_volkswagen_polo_golf_scirocco_.png&hash=52063695290ed2219dfec568a1b2a050337f94c9)

The spare key keyring will need a new leather piece. Unfortunately most of the GTI keyrings aren't made anymore or their prices are very high.

Make me a decent offer and I'll sell the Ed. 35 keyring to you.

Can't believe I've not updated this since August! Went up to Edition 38, brilliant show as always. Saw lots of good looking cars incl. a black ED35 on a detailing stand which was nice to see.

Picture from the carpark:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fchrisr766%2FMK6_ED35%2FA342CB69-E463-4977-84D3-435F8C9B22DB_zpslhzltuo4.png&hash=5f2f4f170f4e55c86f856c15a41ecde0704de7f4)

Anyway - I'd been thinking about a few mods to enhance the car and put my own stamp on it.

Noise was one thing this car didn't produce! I'm not one for driving like an idiot - But I enjoy some exhaust noise. I didn't want to get something you couldn't live with on a daily basis. Ended up going with a BCS Powervalve Sports system from @nige bcs (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=331). Excellent customer service, did a brilliant job on the car and made me feel like i'd got my money's worth. I'll let the pictures do the talking:

Not sure if I should build it up for Stage 2 or 2+ and get it mapped eventually. What's people's opinions on this?

Anyway ... Been thinking about an intake for a while - Went for a Revo Camcoat intake.

Quite surprised at how hard it is to pull the engine cover off! I mean it wasn't 'hard' but quite some force!

Lent over the back to get a shot of the downpipe - Titanium wrapped - Really looks the business.

Got the surround in place.

Just the sensor missing here. This area was quite fiddly trying to get the clamp down the back of the engine in the correct position. Anyone got any tips to make this easier in future?

The car sounds like darth-vadar. It's sounds nice, still on the fence whether it suits what I feel the car is - But at the end of the day. I can take it off whenever!  :happy2: I'm pleased with it though.

Thanks for reading  :happy2:

No really a good point, besides the different noise, of getting such great intake and exhaust and not going at least stage 2.

You can also consider getting the R-Tech dual layer exhaust manifold heat shield.

Yeah - I'm thinking about upgrading the brakes at some point - Id love some R8 big stoppers but slight overkill and the money puts me off.

TTRS brakes up front - But the rears will look tiny. What do people suggest as rear conversions to keep things looking equal  :innocent:

I went for the R32 rear brakes. They're 310 mm vented discs. You can get them new "cheap" if you buy the TRW branded, instead of the VW branded. Search the forum, you'll find the references you need.

In the front I went for the Touareg/Q7/Cayenne brakes with 350 mm MB ML450 discs. My mechanic liked the setup.

I didn't need wheel spacers with my OZ Ultraleggeras, while with the TTRS calipers I would. Wheel spacers aren't road legal in my country, that was my main concern. :innocent:
