Forge engine caps
on May 20, 2018, 04:46:40 PM
Anyone know where I can get these caps in chrome? I saw them a few years back before I got my Edition 30 but I've spent weeks looking for some and can only find ones for the mk7 GTI.

Any help appreciated.

Re: GTi Mk5 or Mk6 as a race car?

Hi Neil,
thanks for the reply, unfortunately the Ed30 and Ed35 both put me over the power to weight ratio for the class so I need to start with a bog standard Mk5 or Mk6 as the base. It does appear that the chain tensioner has been solved and I'm happy to check it fairly often. The pistonheads page is a good explanation of the differences.
On APRs website it shows the fol

It's just a screw so will turn to back off.
I've been looking for a replacement also as mine is perished but im going to use one on a mk2 as ebay specials are dodge and might not not work.

The car really does drive so much better the closer to zero the LTFT is. Mine currently sits/fluctuates between +-1.5% of Zero, depending on driving style and whether the WMI is in use, and the difference is night and day over the old RamAir which used to sit at around +12-14%

It feels lik

Hopefully it does the job. Otherwise its a good unit and makes the dash look much nicer. Only complaint i have is the screen does suffer from glare somewhat- although window tint would see to that. I also cant find anyway to autodim the screen when the lights turn on. Ive looked through the settings, is there something im missing?

ARB Size
Last Poster: MIJ_JAGGER in Mk5 General Area on Yesterday at 09:50:50 PM
Anyone know what the anti roll bar size is on a MK5 Gti DSG?

The bracket that holds the bushing has snapped on mine and apparently can’t buy the brackets by themselves. Looking to get a whole arb instead.

Ps if anyone has one for sale with brackets and bushings then please holler, needs to be in good nick

Re: Advice on worn top mounts
Last Poster: shail in Mk5 General Area on Yesterday at 08:29:05 PM
I had a knock, but mine turned out to be rack.

During diagnosis they also checked the subframe bolts as apparently these have a tendency to get loose and cause knocking - something easy to check.

Did you change the DV? If you did was it split? I think you have a smallish split in the DV that, when cold, is managing to maintain roughly the boost required. Then, when hot, the rubber gets more malleable and therefor lets through more air. Even if you've checked the DV and thought that it's fine don't put it back in, just replace it and see if it's cured - eventually you'll nee

Single mass clutch flywheels?

Has anyone converted to a single mass flywheel? How does it affect driveability? What about the vibrations?

Also had to hack my rear brake dust shield off yesterday. Again used great advice of this forum. Jacked car up and used a set of tin snips. Took me about 30mins or so. I’m no mechanic but what a useless piece of engineering. Especially the fact that you can’t replace them without taking the hub off.. it almost as if they did it on purpose.

Hopefully getting pressed plat

Didn't the ATE 200 fluid shorten ABS pump life/cause ESP issues in the long run due to it's viscosity? Fine on a track car but not advisable on a road car? I know I read it somewhere as the general consensus, so much so, that I binned mine and ordered genuine VAG fluid instead before I did my brakes.

Now I notice a quieter idle. It's just the injectors working, mostly. The cam chain and cam chain tensioner were also inspected and looked in good condition. The cam chain timing on VCDS is spot on. The engine has a bit more than 80k km/50k miles, at the moment

Mines on 187k , I'm replaced the box 2 months ago due to the mech unit failing , apart from that it's been bang on
How much was the replacement box if you don’t mind me asking?

The only thing I can think of is I fitted a different ecu to check it worked but I new it wouldn't run due to coding.  Could it be that ? When you clear it the code just comes beck it's also saying the ecu isn't coded but it runs fine .
