Carista app - it works to reset airbag light
« on: August 18, 2015, 05:30:22 pm »
Just a quick review of the android app Carista.

Cost £15 for the app + you need a £5 Bluetooth OBD adapter.

It successfully reset my airbag light. Not can also activate / deactivate various settings such as:
1 press / 2 press lock options
Coming home lights
Auto lock when moving
Parking sensors volume
And loads more.

I only used the 1 press to open all doors and it worked like a charm.

Not bad for £20 all in.

It also found a lot more fault codes than the Torque app which is popular.

I activated a 'beep' on lock / unlock and it worked.  I also put the reverse 'beep' for parking sensors to max, which also worked.

I've not messed with other settings as they are already activated on my car.

Torque app is limited, brings up serious fault codes that can put the EML on, doesn't pick up minor codes such as codes related to the runner flaps

Sounds like a viable alternative to the VCDS Clones for those not wanting to spend £260+

It paid for itself by turning the airbag light off for me. The rest is a bonus!

I have downloaded this app and got a good obd2 adapter. All the diagnostic works but when I go on customise and choose my car it comes up saying the car either isn't supported or my ignition isn't on? Can I confirm your car is a mk5 golf? Like mine. Any help? Thanks

Is that still the case?   Most of the comments on the app store for Carista seem to indicate everything is an in-app purchase if you want to do anything with it now.

Well it still won't work for me. This is what carista customer service emailed me?

Thank you for the app report. Unfortunately, the way your car has responded to some of our commands, shows us that it still uses an older communication protocol (the same one as in the Mk4 Golf), which isn't supported by OBD2 adapters. Your car isn't supported for advanced diagnostics, customizations and/or advanced service tools. Sorry about that.

Just to say Carista is excellent, for me at least. I paid £33 for the year’s subscription after the free month. It’s already paid for itself in helping diagnose faults. (08 GTI). Recommended.

Just wanted to thank you for the post. Off the back of this I bought one and it arrived yesterday. Bluetooth works a dream and my airbag light issue (caused because I had ignition in when I removed the front passenger seat) was all reset and sorted. Currently have lots of other lights but that is because the engine cover is off and so are the wheels, brakes etc etc. In fact I have to put it back together by Saturday !

So this will show all faults found and is there anything it can't do ? That vagcom can ?

It's not a vagcom replacement. It does a fair bit of stuff around coding various options, but as far as I know it doesn't have the full diagnostic capabilities of vagcom.

When I bought it ages ago I think I paid about £15 for the app.   It's now £30/year.   Don't think I'd have paid £30/year for it.
