Engine 'shutting down' after 15 minutes

(1/2) > >>

john87:
Yesterday was the first time I'd drove my R32 after two weeks, and it started and drove as per usual.

On the road home, I pulled away from some traffic lights when suddenly all the gauges dropped to zero and I lost all power. I pulled over, and tried to restart, however no lights appeared on the dashboard, as if the battery was dead.. however the stereo and headlights stayed on as normal

After a walk round the car, I tried again and it started as if nothing had happened!

The same situation occurred again today after approximately the same amount of time. After a quick google, I found a post relating to a faulty ignition relay.

Has anyone else had a similar issue? I'm going to Vagcom it tonight to see if it's raised any codes.

Redemption:
Same happened to me in my R32 although the instrument cluster was cutting out and flashing on and off. Was traced to a faulty main relay in the fuse box in the engine bay. There was a revised part released some time ago.

That's exactly what is was  :happy2: ignition main circuit relay.. ended up calling the AA out after the car cut out 5 times within 10 minutes. Guy was an Edition 30 owner and knew his way round a Golf  :drinking:

Rasco:
I think I have the same issue, can you recall which relay it was? there are two apparently? http://www.autogenius.info/en/volkswagen-golf-5-fuse-box-diagram/

Rasco:
so the VW dealer has found the fault on mine, apparently its the terminal 15 supply relay 433?
