Its all running for the RNS510 now and its miles easier, adding poi into the menu and actually adding alternative menu's is faster and you can delete or add any thing you want.

So you don't know the exact origin of your unit yet you want someone else to accept responsibility for upgrading it.

I honestly can't see anyone taking that on, why would they? Especially a VW dealer.

I personally do not have the resources in which to fix a bricked unit. A Volkswagen dealer or other specialist however (I presume) will.

But I appreciate what you are saying. As I have paid a fraction of the VW price for a suspect "fallen off Back of lorry" unit I shouldn't expect VW or anoter party to pick up the pieces. I was Just curious to know if there were any "specialists" in the UK that would be able to advise on a bricked unit.

if it gets bricked then the only real course of action is to be sent back to continental for repair, which will probably be more expensive than buying another second hand unit, as said people will help you do this or will do it for you ,BUT I doubt anyone will guarantee to get u a new one or fix it if it goes wrong.

Can I ask why you want to upgrade the firmware ?, is there something you specifically need fro
 an upgrade ?

Has anyone with a mk6 reverse camera tried fw 268x?
only reason im asking is i find that with fw 2660 i find the camera picture a bit stretched and not as good as the fw 1100 before 2660!!!

scott.

After reading on VWNavi, they dont seem to like 268x. A lot of the issues are still there supposedly?

If you are worried about the upgrade the easiest way to tell if it will work is take the unit out and have a look at the security seals. If the seals are intact you should be ok. If they are broken you need to open the unit up and check and see if the EEPROM has been soldered. If it has it won't update. It will brick when it reaches the CAN-Gateway 10% mark.

Alternatively if yours came with an official Code Card then again you should be fine. Again not always the case though as mine didn't come with a code card but the seal is intact and i have upgraded from 1004-1024-0904-2664-2684 and always its been fine.

If you do brick it then it is not that expensive to get un-bricked. I know someone who got his done and it cost him just over £100 including the postage there and back to Poland.

As for further problems… The only people i know who have problems still are those on HW03 or below. These units do not support SDHC (they physically don't have the correct hardware) and some of the other features like Voice Control as again the hardware is not in place.

So Check your MFD3 and see in the Test menu what Hardware version you are running. If it's HW04 or above then you will be fine for the upgrade in terms of experiencing problems.
