Towbar Beeping Upon Ignition?

My buddy had a towbar installed in his 2012 Passat yesterday (mechanical and electrical fit for lighting on trailer).

Now when he starts the ignition there's a beep but no lights on the dash and when the car turns over there's another beep.

Anybody any thoughts on this before I plug in VCDS?
