Dubvrs 2008 GTI restoration and upgrade

dubvrs:
Well after getting a company vehicle last year my daily became unused and thought I better get me a toy to play with.

Roll up this little unloved GTI. One owner from new and 80k miles. Interior is ok but leather has suffered a little and some interior trim. Exterior wheels have just been sprayed but bodywork needs a lot of work but looks ok from 5m away but managed to get it for 6k.

Pic of car as I got it tonight.

Initial jobs to do.

Rust on front wings is only just starting but also a little on the drivers sill just under the wing.
Dents in drivers door.
Damage to passenger rear arch plus dent.
Rust on boot lid under glass.
Couple of rusty stone chips need treating.

Bit of mould in the interior as not moved since September.
Look at getting leather on drivers seat sorted.
Crack in passenger side rear quarter card.
Sunglasses holder does not shut as clip broken.
Rear bumper damaged and paint missing.

Paint needs a good going over as a number of scratches and moss.

Will start to order loads of replacement bits plus some mods.

Picture of the old daily that I will miss for its uniqueness.

Couple of my previous projects.

Dave J:
Best of luck with your new project. I see you bought it in the best colour...!

I had a few things to do on my ED30 when I bought it - I mean, how do you dint the ali trim on both doors. It was a good car, it's now a brilliant car with MFD, hi-line, RNS510 added, plus loads more.

You've had some tasty motors - look forward to how you get on with this one!

Gmac:
Looking forward to seeing what you do with the golf.  Lovin the allroad!!!

dubvrs:
Cheers for the comments.

Put a new battery in my spare key as no red light came on when pressing the buttons. Red light comes on now just need to adapt it at the weekend when I get my mates Vagcom cable.

Gear gaitor looking a bit worn out so ordered a replacement.

Picture of damage on the rear arch and bumper. Ordered a touch up paint for the moment.

Also found some rust under the lower edge of the rear window of the tailgate.

Parts ordered.

Floor matts
Wheel nut covers
Centre caps as all have white worm
Roof console with working sunglasses holder
Can follower
Rev G diverted valve
Pair of new fog light and yellow tint film
Pair of open lower grilles
New grill and lower grill
Dark hazard switch
De wiper kit
Ram air over size induction kit

dubvrs:
Taken it for a spin tonight and seams like the thermostat is stuck shut.

Temperature goes into the red and coolant warning light comes on. Checked radiator and feels cool. Top hose to radiator was slightly warm to the touch. Away with work now until the weekend so will have to investigate further then.

Broke it within one day of ownership . Hopefully just a stat as been sitting for 7 months.
