Genuine RNS 510?
Lyons:
Cheers monte, appreciate the help.
I notice the 2680 firmware has all the advantages of the 2660, but also isnt subject to the battery drain so ill maybe see about upgrading to it.
My only worry is that if the unit does have a dodgy past and i upgrade it, it'll end up blocked leaving me stranded with an unusable RNS!
And assuming it arrives and all is well, based on everyones opinions on them im certainly hoping to feel the same. Ive never seen how good the quality of DVD's are on teh screen though, so im hoping its as good, if not better than the Kenwood i saw yesterday...

like I say mate, when I did my firmware update I was a bit scared after hearing some horror stories so I asked Darren, "what if I brick the unit?" he replied saying It shouldn't, and if it did it can still be sorted
Send Darren a pm. He is a great guy :notworthy:
Lyons:
Ive already been in contact once or twice ;)

I then realised I needed to rename the image :ashamed:

Same manufacture date as mine. Firmware will be 900 unless someone has upgraded it previously.

Here's something interesting.... I've discovered a forum which assists people to unlock VW radio's. There is lengthy discussion on the RNS510. It appears that there is more advanced methods available to discover the units code. So advanced that you can then upgrade units which have been tampered with in this way.
Unsoldering and decoding the EEPROM is supposedly the amatures way.
