aaron92 black 5 door gti new
« on: May 30, 2016, 03:42:40 pm »
my new gti that ive just brought and should be collecting Friday next week
pictures of it at the car dealers

Its a 54 plate registered very late in December with 96000 miles, full service history and its near on immaculate and I definitely get the impression the previous owner looked after it just small things like goodyears all round, the extensive history an the tidiness of the bodywork and interior.

Looks great!

Any plans for mods or just enjoy it the way it is?

Chris
It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.

Thanks :happy2: yeah lots of plans for mods but just going to do the basics to begin with a decent service with millers nano oil, replace dv with a revision g, and replace cam follower, then enjoy it for a bit then after that I want to go stage 1+ with a ram air oversized induction kit and pre cat delete hoping for between 250 and 260 bhp with r tech. sadly I have limited funds as my kid and house has to come first   :scared:

Sounds like a good plan. Yeah can understand family has to come first. Looks like a great base to start from though and very sensible getting the servicing stuff done first, that's the best thing you can do to keep it nice for longer.

picked up the car today   :pomppomp: and I absolutely love it
I took it straight back to the workshop and removed the dv before I even opened the bonnet and as I suspected

it was split in several places and it was a rev b so I wouldn't be surprised if its the original, I replaced it with a rev g that I had already ordered in ready and then road tested it, it was like a different car  :driver:
I then changed the oil and filter I only used 5w30 fully synthetic long life c3 for now as I'm going to do a couple of 100 miles then replace with millers 5w40 cfs  nanodrive as I wanted to give the engine a bit of a flush with some fresh oil first and the millers at £54 for 5 litres was expensive for a flush out. I have also ordered some NGK Iridium BKR7EIX spark plugs and a new cam follower and seal but I wont receive these until Monday. That's all for now just going to enjoy the car for the weekend and possibly detail it on sunday.

so people sunday I gave the car a bit of a clean but I only had a couple of hours so sadly couldn't detail it but still not bad results

Then on Monday I fitted some NGK Iridium BKR7EIX spark plugs as they needed replacing so I thought id upgrade them. Now for the really bad news it seems my timing chain likes to rattle a lot once the engine is hot and it chatters sometimes on startup :/ so ive ordered a genuine chain and tensioner and gaskets etc ready to do it I'm just hoping its not oil pressure related as my mate is an audi master tech and he did suggest that's what it could be :( also if anyone has the cam locking tool and they wouldn't mind lending it out for the cost of postage it would be really appreciated.

more bad new for the golf today :sad1: not a good first week of ownership, got the cam chain cover off and I was greeted by this

top ring had shattered on the chain covers variable valve controller  :slap: rang tps and they want £360 for a new cover and said the rings cant be brought separately  after a bit of research on the internet I found a vw part number 06f-198-107-a which I'm hoping is going to fit, theyre getting delivered tomorrow so will let you no.

please guys tell me there is some enjoyment in owning a mk5

Hang on in there Aaron, she will be worth it. Getting this bits done will make her love you back.  I spent a pretty penny on mine in the first 6 months correcting those sort of bits. Now I have a base to start the serious stuff, once the finances allow. Like you, family comes first.

I like the depth of the paint on yours, I bet she'd look stunning after a bit of poor boys black hole. Not used it myself yet, but have seen the results on a mates Cupra R. Well worth a few hours doing.

I'm hanging in there at the minute and enjoying driving it even though my alternator makes a horrible noise every now and then I think the bearings are shot  but I'm ignoring that for now and just enjoying it  yeah I've got some black hole glaze but just not had time for a full detail yet sadly but I did wash the engine bay this evening  :happy2: I've got the millers nano stuff in it now and I have to say the engine seems loads quieter I highly recommend it

Welcome to the black 5 door club Aaron! Sorry your having a few teething issues but like the other guys said stick with it as it will be worth it in the long run. Have you figured what plans you have for your GTI? Loads of builds/project threads on here to give you ideas, including mine  :happy2:

Getting through the teething issues now I've had a week with no problems  :signLOL: and I've been loving actually getting to drive it. Got lots of plans but sadly not the funds to back it up so it will be a slow project. I've got some 35mm amax lowering Spring coming which I realistically expect to be 20mm as a temp until I'm ready for coilovers which I will fit tomorrow evening at work. Then I'm going to put a Ramair oversized induction kit, remove the precat and then off down to r tech for stage 1. Once I'm at that point I want some bbs ch reps 18" and coilovers but that's all for now really apart from odd bits like seat inlays, led bulbs etc.
