Reflex Silver Mk5 Golf GTI
JamieKirk95:
No major updates on the Golf recently. However, last month I passed my LGV license so I can now drive the Fire Engine:driver:
Anyway, I've done a couple of little cleaning jobs on the Golf while I had a bit of spare time.
So I made a start in the boot by removing the carpet, tool set and spare tyre.

Another small update again,
I had planned to do a full cleanup before I go to Cornwall at the end of the month, I decided to make a start by cleaning and polishing the sills.

I ordered a friends service parts through tps and got him good discount, so as he was going to pick the bits up I ordered a couple of things and got him to pick them up for me.

I then diluted the screen wash to the correct dilution using de-ionised water, I have worked out the following;
1 Litre VW screen wash - £4
5 Litre De ionised water - £2
I diluted it down to 1:4 as recommended, the washer tank is 4 litres so works out that it costs just under £5 a time.

First I used the wipers to get rid of all existing screen wash, I then flushed the remainder out with normal water through the washer jets.

JamieKirk95:
So recently I haven't been using the golf as much due to buying a second car:D
Here she is
IMG_6083 by jamie kirk, on Flickr
I bought the corsa off a good friend who had had it since new, his in laws had just given him their old car so he was selling this. I bought it for £200 with just over a month left on the mot. Im not one to turn down a project so I did a bit of work on the car, I cleaned it up, serviced it and changed the exhaust and handbrake on it so it passed the mot. This monday I sold the corsa for £650 and during the month I had it I put about 1000 miles on it, so kept them miles off the golf:thumb:
This then gave me the chance to get the golf up on axel stands so I could take the arch liners off give them a good clean and then paint the disc hubs and repaint the red calipers as they had started to fade.
Heres just one pic to show them, the weather hasn't been good enough recently to get some good pics

I had the golf on the axel stands for about 9 days, it wasn't until the day I took the golf off them that I realised I should have disconnected the battery.
The car wouldn't start so I had to jump start it from the corsa, I then took it for a drive and called in at shell to put some vpower in it. All good until I go to start it again and it wouldn't so I had to get someone to jump start it again and got it back home.
I was going to replace the battery before winter anyway so I knew which one I wanted anyway so ordered a Varta.
Heres the old one

Oil Filler Neck
As my car has the evoms intake kit on it the standard engine cover no longer fits without modifying it however I like the way it looks without. The oil filler has a neck on it so it sits flush with the cover, this neck is just held on by glue so I decided to get rid of it so my cap would then sit flush on the cam cover.

I ordered an r8 oil cap from tps as I think they look nicer and just add a little touch to the engine bay
IMG_6133 by jamie kirk, on Flickr
IMG_6134 by jamie kirk, on Flickr
The next thing I set about changing was the washer cap and coolant cap as they was blue and didn't match anything in the bay so ordered the black set from AKS Tuning

I'm looking at getting the car remapped and will be upgrading the oil to millers nanodrive 5w40 so ordered a new oil filter and sump plug while at tps
IMG_6150 by jamie kirk, on Flickr
Finally
I am getting the cam chain and tensioner replaced in a couple of weeks so got the parts from tps
