mk5 gti faults?
« on: October 31, 2008, 08:25:33 pm »
i was just wondering what problems you guys have had during your ownership, so far ive had check sum error, 3rd brakelight failure and wheels corroding.  none of these have put me off though i still love my gti, makes me smile everytime i drive it :driver:

well, i had a plasticky rubbing sound from the steering wheel area, i sorted it myself though and it was just an ill fitting cowling (one of the prongs on the front of the top cowling was bent over slightly), other than that my only niggles that possibly arent faults just 'features'  are the exhaust is a bit loud at aprox 1700 rpm, and there is an odd rubbing noise when pulling away in first gear

The only fault i had (touch wood) was the airbag light coming on.
tried resetting it 1st time but wouldn't reset so had to fiddle with the wires underneath the passenger seat and after a few more attempts it finally reset and all is good now :jumpmove:

does anyone bootlight flicker the odd time and sometimes even knocks off

rear wiper motor (electrical fault, had a mind of its own)
another electrical unit in the door - due to a puddle light failure

Other bits I have changed for piece of mind..
