Wastegate rattle?
AJP:
Just lately I've been hearing a slight metallic rattle on light throttle coming onto boost. Imagine a tiny bit of gravel or small ball bearing being shaken about inside a tin can, that's probably the closest description I can give! It's not very loud, but loud enough for me to hear it every time now I'm listening for it.
I've done a good search and one thing that keeps coming up is a loose wastegate rod. What's the best way of diagnosing this? And what's the cure if it does turn out to be the wastegate?
I'd imagine it's not the sort of thing that throws a fault code. Just hope it's nothing serious, whatever it is! I do plan on going k04/k03 hybrid at some point, but I'd like to get this sorted in the meantime while I'm on the k03.
Paradox1:
I get the same rattle. mine is only on idle though. mine is definitely wastegate rattle but its quite common on TSI engines.

Is it as simple a job as tightening it up and it's sorted?
Paradox1:
havent really had a look tbh.
I think it either needs tightening or its knocking on the heatshield, maybe bending the heatshield slightly may help in my case.
Worth checking if yours as come loose first though
AJP:
Ok mate. It's going in for brakes soon so I'll get it looked at while it's there.
