Could it be the wiring where it comes through the door in to the car that is the problem rather than the speaker? or is it just coincidence that it's the door that gets opened and closed the most on both cars?

I had the same problem and it was the wiring (door harness) that was the problem. I initially tried swapping the tweeter and it made no difference. 2 of the wires in the door harness were slightly cracked so tapped them up and now all good again.
