URGENT- need help
« on: June 11, 2018, 01:17:50 pm »
The engine management light came on my MK5 2006 GTI yesterday with a loss of power. The engine has a whistling sound at idle that sounds like a siren the engine makes a horrible rattling sound like a diesel being revved around 4-5k. The code was cleared (air mass flow) and the car seemed to run a bit better, I drove it home (150 miles) and the light has not returned however, whilst driving the car the power lacks from normal and seems to die off and go flat at around 4000rpm. The car has low end boost just not as punchy as normal. I wondered if it was an air leak but can't explain the horrible rattle maybe the engine not firing correctly or an injector? Any ideas anyone?

Diverter valve (DV valve) on the turbo is good possibility.

Did you replace the MAF or just clear the code?

If I had a loud whistling, an audible rattle from the engine, low boost and an EML my first thought would be dead turbo.

Blown turbo...........the noise haunts me now, when it gave up and shattered on my last car.

Time to drop the down pipe and wiggle the turbo shaft to see how much play it has.   It does sound like it's very close to complete death from the symptoms.

Test your PCV and then look at the brake booster hose for splits...check all of the BB hose. Posting a vid while idling and slowly panning about up close might help us. Post the codes next time rather than deleting them. Give the exact code number/specification, OK?

Yeah the exact codes would be useful.   A MAF code isn't unusual alongside a blown turbo as the air volume drawn in is less than expected.
