Black 3 door GTi
Simon_2.0t:
Apologies for the poor pics.
Day it arrived:
On the drive:
Overall very happy with it, does need a lot of TLC, plus full service and standard Mk5 bits doing (cam follower, DV, PCV etc). Drives well and enjoying the Mk5 feel again.
Got my work cut out on this one, DBP!:
I have always said I'd never own a black car. But hoping with all experience I now have with detailing I'll be able to bring this back to life. Maintaining plus living with may be a different story, I know I have OCD with my cars.
Anyway, treated to a full goodies from local TPS
Full filter, air, oil, pollen, fuel
Oil
Spark plugs
Cam follower and HPFP seal
PCV and new gasket
DV (Revision G)
Front brake shields and bolts
Rear wiper arm, blade, cap and new nut
Hopefully getting to my brothers garage this weekend to get up on the ramp and give car a once over plus fit some of these.

DazG:
Hi Si, I've just picked up a black gti project for myself. Will be watching what you do to this. Your Anni was super clean :happy2:
Dave J:
Welcome back Si!
You're braver than me, going for a black car this time but expect it'll be no fuss for you!
Your last MK5 was lovely - I do keep looking at mkivs seeing as I have so many parts left over from my killed mkiv...
My ED30 has just clicked over to 80k - don't want to get rid - it's too much fun, so think it is a keeper now.
Simon_2.0t:
Cheers guys.
Yes I'll see how I get on with black, think the dusty summer days will be a killer for me! :scared:
Simon_2.0t:
So the anni went last weekend:
Which meant I could put the mk5 in the garage and make a start on cleaning and also got along to my brothers garage to get it up on the ramp for a once over plus service.
I've made a start under the bonnet, this is what I was greated with:
Started buy giving a full de-grease and wash. Making sure all sensors taped up and dry. Then removed engine cover as had a few bits to fit/replace:
New Cam follower
New revised PCV valve (R)
Cover off:
Trusty mk5golfgti.co.uk fitting guide:
Much easy on this one than my old red mk5 as that had the two metal pipes! This only the one and the rubber. So took my time and all done in no time. Car is on 131K and no sign than been replaced before...
Defiantly needed it!!
New vs old:
Checked cam and luckily no sign of wear. Don't know why VW doesn't put these in service plans!
New HPFP seal:
Job done:
Next job revised PCV valve:
Old:
New:
Whilst off gave everything a good clean:
All back:
New air filter. Just gone for OEM for now, not sure if go down performance panel filter or induction kit further down the line:
Needed doing!
Fitted my plate:
For first once over, very pleased. Like everything the more time spent on will improve, but for first clean came up ok. Plus nice to get my hands dirty and get a few small bits done.
