Headlight choices
« on: October 18, 2018, 01:03:38 pm »
Afternoon all. I'm needing new headlights. What's the brightest out of new GTI copys or the projector style with just normal good bulbs?

Does anyone have any recommendations about what manufacturer to buy?

Aww geez. I was necessarily looking for HID but I did see some aftermarket projector styles on ebay. Not sure what to do :-(

Not cheap but will be legal come mot time.

Only legal if you have the other bits that are fitted as standard from the factory so don’t be too sure

What about some decent LEDs in the normal housings?  Not the rubbish ones on ebay, but proper ones as per Youtube videos.

Unfortunately, projector lamp washers are part of the MOT check, as is visual inspection of the level sensors.  I guess they also check for the xenon startup test where the beams move around for a couple of seconds.  Not sure if aftermarket projectors do that.

If mine didn't already have xenons, I would not bother retro fitting them.  Not worth it.  They're not that bright for one thing, they wobble over bumps (worse with uprated suspension) and the lamp housings are physically bigger than the regular ones, which causes an annoying bumper gap.

Always illegal, whether you get caught or not!
You're just lucky not getting caught yet, that's all.
