Steering Wheel control module, not accepting coding

I tried retrofitting cruise control.... I have the stalk, it has the diagnostic wire fitted, I can code engine control module to accept cruise control log in... but when I try change any soft coding in the steering wheel control module I just get an ERROR 31: Request Out Of Range... Slip Ring C, Stalk G, Steering control module AF... Pin 13 Diag wire present.. =/ stumped....
