Anyone fitted the Audi S3 Gear Linkage?
« on: January 26, 2019, 04:42:14 pm »
I recently stubbled across a previous thread on here where a number of owners fitted Part number 8J0711046E from the same generation Audi S3.  Obviously OEM quality, relatively cheap (Parts now £50) and a 20% reduction in gearshift  throw.

What's not to like...?

I believe @colesey has one fitted it and rates it.  I don't find the standard shift long at all tbh, so never bothered changing it.

Thanks for the reply, hopefully @colesey might let me know his opinion.  I definitely find it a bit long in throw but I guess it's just personal preference. :happy2:

Interested. Just bought the 42DD bushing kit and a new friction piece, looking forward to fitting it all up next week. Short shifter would tie it all together nicely. Anyone have an idea of cost from the dealers? Darkside have it at £35 which is a fairly good price.

Yes, I have the S3 shifter plus darkside bracket bushes and also had the bleeder block restrictor removed.  All are relatively minor changes but have a worthwhile cummulative effect. The throw is slightly reduced but gear changes are now more positive and quicker. Don’t be tempted by fancy gear oils, the OEM works better than the Millers NT I had in there.

Thanks for your reply, I think I’m sold on the idea.

To anyone considering this... Check the P/N of what you have on there now...

On my Pirelli, I bought the S3 shifter hoping for a shorter shift - and it was exactly the same as the part on originally. I bought the car new, so know that it was the original part. So be careful before you spend your £50. Unlike me...

Oh - and as I'm new I can't read PMs - but if you are interested in my old one, with 60k mile good condition end-link, shout and I can PM you. Happy to sell it on for a low fee, provided I can find it in the garage...

If PKGTi doesn’t want it I could be interested. How much you thinking?

Good to know.  Probably why I've had no complaints with the shift in my ED30  :happy2:
