F**led hub bolt help

<< < (2/3) > >>

pudding:
I usually hammer on the edge of the bolt with a cold chisel and if that doesn't work, drilling or welding as advised.

I think the hubs are £150 each from VW.  They've gone up recently.  I'd be wary of cheap patterns as the ABS tone rings on them can cause ABS faults, not to mention inferior quality bearings in them.

absolute:
Mother of god - isn't that a spline?

pudding:
Triple square.  They're not done up that tight, but can be an arse to undo.  Same problem as the VVT adjuster bolt!

absolute:
VW in their infinite wisdom a.k.a monopoly on servicing.

chigmuss:
All the usual tried and tested methods mentioned above. I'd add HEAT into the equation.
It's amazing what a good dose of oxy/acetylene will do to free up a stubborn bolt.
I'd try centre punching the thing and drill it before cycling maybe 5 goes of heat and cool. Don't pour water on, you'll possibly make things more brittle. Then get some form of bolt into the hole so it can be welded on. A good socket/long lever and fingers crossed it'll release.
TBH, if you've got it off the car, most machine shops will have encountered your problem and should be adept at getting it out (often for beer money).
Good luck.. :happy2:
