Best Engine Oil Brand and Rating (Budget Edition)
« on: March 17, 2019, 12:19:04 pm »
Hi,

Looking for a recommended Engine Oil brand, range within the brand and rating.

I need to do an oil filter change and would like to hear recommended brands.

I live in North Scotland for any oil rating choices.

Cheers

I've just bought 5l of the above oil for £20. I normally use Miller's nanodrive which is usually £40-£50.

Fixed or variable servicing? They are different oil types.

502.00 fixed = 10K
504.00 variable = 9 to 20K

502 I would go with Mobil 1 or Motul Specific.
504 I would go with anything of a reputable brand to be honest

I got Castrol Edge 5w-30 off ebay for £26.

Considered the Millers but just a little out the price bracket.  Maybe in the future.

Thanks guys!

It's 4.6l to do an oil and filter change so I hope you bought enough as the Castrol is usually in 4 or 1 litre capacities.

Are Castrol still playing that stupid game?   Partly why I stopped buying their oil years ago.  Apart from my MK1 GTI which took 3.5 litres with a filter change, I've never owned a car since that takes less than 4.5 litres.

Just bought 5L of Nano and it was 57 bangers.... not cheap.

According to my recent research it now seems that castrol are now selling Edge in 5 litre bottles.
