Advice needed.

My car has done just over the 100,000 miles.
Would it be advisable to have the oil pickup pipe renewed and the inlet manifold cleaned.
Or am I getting confused??

Definitely worth doing the oil pickup for preventative maintenance.  The carbon cleaning isn't so much of a big deal.

I bought a new pipe. You also clean the sump out whilst  it's off.

Some clean and re-use - but for the cost of the pickup, seal and sealant, do it once and do it properly. Regular (non longlife) oil changes from then on will mean its a one off exercise

Just spoken to Gwent VW on Leeway ind Estate
oil pickup pipe  + seal
oil system cleaner
oil filter + oil.
new sump plug
sump sealant
£350 inc vat.

Does that sound about right?

What is 'oil system cleaner' ?   If that means engine flushing, I would steer clear of that personally.

£350 seems a bit steep.  It's a dead easy job DIY and the tube and sealant are cheap enough.  In this day and age I prefer to do that sort of thing myself to ensure it's done properly and most cost effectively.

I think i will be going to Turner performance and not bother with the engine flush.
VW Gwent said i would need a new sump plug also ???

The washer is fixed to the plug hence you're meant to change the plug every time you removed it, should be plenty for sale on eBay.

The sump plug is classic up sell.  I've reused the same one on the last 5 or 6 oil changes and it doesn't leak.
