Strange rattle on cold starts
« on: December 17, 2017, 03:03:40 pm »
I'm getting a strange rattle/clatter on cold starts which increases with the revs, goes away after about 30 seconds. No dash lights on or fault codes. This video (Not mine) is exactly what I'm hearing) Anyone had this issue? Cheers!

Check the cam chain+tensioner or it is the chain+tensioner on timing belt side connected to the oil pump.

Sounds a little like oil starvation on the top end at engine start and cams aren't fully lubed. Do you get the same when starting after its hot? Also I would drop the sump and check the strainer.

A worn VVT adjuster can get a bit rattly on a cold start-up.
