vag com engine block 94 cam adjuster

Hi.

vag com question. Engine group.

Wanting to check if my inlet timing is out. And any chain strech on bwa engine. Block 94 timing chain. Does anyone know the basic setting procedure test or prerequisites for the camshaft adjuster? Iv pressed down the brake and accelerator pedal, to or so minutes, at 90 deg idle, and the test doesnt start?

Hi @Dunkdafunk i don't think holding the brake and accelerator is the right procedure, that's for something else. But there should be a drop down list in basic settings that you can select Cam Adjuster or Variable timing solenoid (VVT) from.. i cant remember the correc off head. check Ross tech site for basic setting procedures.

this video might be helpful to check if your chain is stretched.. i remember seeing this a while back.

do you know how to run the block procedure shown in the video? Just that when im on 93, and leave it to idle warm, information doesnt come up like in the vid? How long do u wait for? And block 94 does let you hold the brake and push down the accelerator to 2k revs, not sure what info its for, but again im not gettin any info. Im using an xtool vag 401.

Only thing im working off is block 91 i think, not sure, but it shows cam shaft adjustment spec (28deg kw) vs cam shaft adjustment actual (34 deg kw). What do they mean?? Does that mean im advanced on my intake by 6 deg kw?

block 91 specified should be 28kw, whereas actual should be +/- 1kw of the specified. Sounds like yours is a little out, but not by a whole tooth or anything (1 tooth is approx 30kw).

Could be one of the rings in the adjuster has slipped or it could be a dud adjuster.

Does it sound like a diesel from inside the cab, when warmed up?

No it means the inlet cam is advanced 34 degrees.  KW is german for angle.

Doesn't the video refer to a TSI engine... Yours is a BWA FSI engine maybe somebody with more knowledge than i might clarify

are you experiencing any misfires or lumpy running? if you're a tooth out.. I'm sure you'd easily tell. I defo did!! I was physically a tooth coz i missed the inlet rolling back a tooth! So once started and the idle lowered to normal idle.. it was spitting every other cycle.

What does block 93 say?  Should be between 0-3KW.  This number tends to be a lot bigger if the chain is worn or the inlet cam is mistimed.

Did you not get any "Intake cam adjustment - retard set point not reached" type fault codes?

I think its about 20-30kw for a tooth. Mine was at approx -4kw vs -24kw for my AXX when it was a tooth out.

Only thing is when i kick its backside in, the fuel pump struggles, and iv done literally everything else to the fuel system for it to be either the actual lobe worn down which it looks fine to me, or the intake shaft is too advanced

Yup, the VVT sprockets have the least amount of teeth of all the sprockets on the engine, so have the biggest margin for error.   19 degrees per tooth.

Have you tracked the cam position actual versus cam position specified on a drive with VCDS?   Has the cambelt been done recently?  Could be a tooth off on the exhaust sprocket, which would knock the VVT out of alignment.   You also didn't answer my question about the static cam position and fault codes, if any.

Sorry pudding i didnt see your reply there.

So. I cant get 93 to show any info as yet on static kw. Iv followed the procedure in the video and waited for around 5 minutes. No joy on static info. Im not gettin any codes. Just a fuel pump performance code for the hpfp, and on cold start it takes a short while, or for me to open the door a few times and itl start straight off. The fuel system has all been changed. My specific is 28kw and my actual is 34kw using an xtool 401 reader. So im assuming im 6kw advanced and its causing my hpfp to not work when it should. Previous owner had the rubber belt done like 20k ago. But im gna also presume that the metal timing chain is slack.

How do i know if the vvt solenoid is stuck through vag com?
