coilovers, springs or bags

I am toying with changing the suspension on mk5 mk5 gti I have the opportunity of buying an air ride system , but I would probably need someone to fit it and its not cheap, but like the look of a dropped ride, however I am happy to look at coilovers but don't want to affect the ride quality, any suggestions would just lowering springs be the best option?

Personally I’d go with lowering springs but a lot of ratings on the decent coilovers, it’ll be a hard decision

I’ve had Eibach sportline lowering springs with standard shocks for couple years then moved to H&R Ultra low coilovers to go even lower.
Finally moved back to standard springs and shocks because of little one coming along and didn’t want car to be low.
Now I’m contemplating on going for air ride.
The lowering springs were comfortable and handled well. But the coilovers I must say were super comfy and handled very well too
Still have the coilovers for sale, once sold, I’ll be putting that towards the air fund

Personally i would never get lowering springs because you will always want it lower eventually
If I was to go back to coilovers it would be H&R ultralows
Saying that I love my air bags

car has done 85k I don't have a massive budget, I think for ease the lowering springs to start with and see where I go from there, is there a preferred brand, any low mileage used ones about ?

With that mileage on the dampers, you'd really be best off changing both the springs and shocks.

my choices would be as followed

1: Eibach springs with bilstein B8 shocks, new top mounts. (rs3 ones i think are better than OE) probably the best spring/shock combo you can buy in my eyes.
2: BC coilovers. well built kit if you want lows. any cheap kit apex/ap/fk/jom/stance/raceland, avoid like the plague, they'll get you low but ruin the ride and cant see them lasting more than a few years at best.
3. if your gentleman sausage is more of a chipolata but you feel you want to wave it around, get air. air is the best thing to pull 15 year old lasses at Mcdonalds since a corsa vxr.

Get the MK6 B8 kit as it's more forgiving than the MK5 spec.  Slightly softer damping.  TT top mounts, yup  :happy2:

Air bags and sausages  :grin:  Not my bag (haha) but it's better than the extreme camber folk who can't drive over leaves without it bottoming out  :grin:
