Best aftermarket (not too expernsive) double din stereo?
« on: October 12, 2019, 11:43:33 am »
Hi guys (and gals)

Any recommendations for a new stereo for my 2005 Golf GTI? I like the OEM look and was considering trying to upgrade to a later VW stereo with DAB, but have heard the sound quality isn't great on all of them - a bit 'boomy'...? I've tried adjusting the fader/balance but it still sounds a bit echoey (if that's a word?).

I'm not too bothered about SatNav as I have a TomTom but would like a DAB to listen to Radio  1Xtra (Charlie Sloth, etc.).

Cheers  :drinking:

I'm probably but are there any 'how to' guides on removing the standard stereo? Looks a bit fiddly to me...

Get some plastic trim tools, you need to remove the surround and top centre vent.

Long time since I had one out.

If you google search on this forum , no doubt there's been older threads.

Thanks GVK, in the past that's been the difficult bit for me; getting all the trim off without scratching anything... I had some success with wrapping a cloth around the end of a screwdriver but plastic trim removal tools sound good  :happy2: where would I order them from?

Cheers
