Replacement intercooler
« on: October 27, 2019, 09:11:37 pm »
Hi guys got a 2008 Ed30
The intercooler is looking pretty knackered , I was thinking of replacing it .
What’s your options on replacement intercooler and  prices , or does anyone have a good second hand one .
Cheers

The S3 / 6R one would be a decent choice unless you intend tuning to 400bhp levels. Typically start from around £100 for a used one. Quite a few people will insist on the earlier alloy model however inside knowledge suggests the later iteration with plastic ends flows better and is also cheaper.

Are you sure you're not looking at the Air con condenser?  That is the front most radiator and takes all the stones, so the intercoolers rarely fail unless the end tanks crack from too much boost.

If you mean the pipe connections are all oily and dripping, then as above, 6R/S3 will solve that.

Would this fit directly onto a MK5 GTI 07 plate?

Also, how would this battle against an S3 intercooler, would this be considered better?

Thanks

Yep.  I have the MK6 Intercooler on mine.  It's the same one fitted to the 2009 onwards S3 as well.  Audi ditched the all alloy one in favour of the plastic end tank one.  Why?  Who knows.  Is it good?  Yep.  I see very low IATs with it  :happy2:  It's also a lot lighter than the all alloy one, if that matters

Is this still available? If so, could we come to some sort of deal.

Thanks
