Polar fis on retrofitted highline clocks

Hello all,

For Christmas Santa brought me a polar fis  :smiley:
Unfortunately when I went to fit it, it doesn’t look like the guide on the website. (Above the pedals)

I am wondering because my high line clocks are retrofitted, does this mean I don’t have a certain module or a different set up?

Can anyone point me in the right direction I’m stuck!  :sad1:

It should work fine as it did on my old gttdi

When fitting mine it was easier to remove the wipers, scuttle panel and wiper motor, then remove the small cover behind the motor to access the canbus. There was no way of getting at it from inside the car.

You will also find the cable is long enough to feed through in to the little cubby by the headlight switch and store the Polar unit itself. Also makes it easier for updates etc.

As above.  I couldn't see how it was possible to get at the CAN gateway from below! 

I ended up selling the Polar FIS because the display was too laggy for me. It was OK for things like oil and water temp that don't refresh very often but boost and lambda changed too fast and the ancient highline display couldn't keep up, so was a bit blurry.  Seemed worse when it was cold.

It's a nice gimmick but if I need to know anything, I just data log a journey with VCDS instead  :smiley:

It's not that its slow. It's the fact that some of the info it shows, for example, boost pressure is constantly changing very quickly and to 2 decimal points. As you can imagine it is just too fast to read accurately. Plus due to limitations on the ECU it can only display a value up to 1.55 bar. For that reason I opted for a stand alone analogue boost gauge as I'm running around 1.75 bar.

For all your other things like temps etc its fine. Mine is always on the Polar screen.

MK6 clocks might be quicker, not sure.   Like I say, over winter the boost was just an unreadable blur.  Electronics don't like being cold.  Over summer it was better, but at the end of the day it's still an ancient dot matrix display that can't keep up.  It was never built for that purpose.  If you don't mind display lag, then it's not a bad mod.

Didn't realise it could only display 1.55 bar.  Even more reason not to bother with it.  It's not exactly cheap!

Cheers for the responses guys, I eventually found my connection up above the pedals, and after becoming a gymnast with a lot of swearing, connected it all up.

Still this isn't going right.... more help needed...
My car was originally a midline then retrofitted to highline dials.
Its all plugged in, but there is nothing on my screen  :confused:

I am so lost with this, its either;
1) I am missing a gateway or canbus or something kind of module to run the highline properly
2) There is something wrong with the unit

Any help, or points will be much appreciated
