Newbie Mk5 Gti
« on: December 31, 2019, 05:52:06 pm »
Hey all, new to mk5 (not to vag)

Bought a 56 plate Gti to be used as a work car really.

Just done full service and
Thermostat (was running cold)
DV rev D piston type (not boosting)

Running good now though i have the P2293 code for fuel pressure which im guessing is the cam follower which will be done end of the month.

Question is towards performance

Does the 2.0TFSI generally act like a NA?

Mine picks up well and pulls good (.8bar on torque app) gets to 4500rpm ish then it really kicks in?

Normal?

Ps my "toy" is a 1989 Gti 16v Mk2 thats currently undergoing full resto by me

Welcome!

Not sure about it acting like an NA but what you suggest sounds about right. Some old logs from when my car was standard shows boost peak at 0.8bar and taper off to 0.4 bar by 6500rpm.

When driving I think the car feels most eager between 2000 and 5000rpm where the little turbo spools quickly and keeps up quite well. Above this the small turbo starts to run out of puff and the power curve levels off - still pulls well but I enjoy the punchy torque in the mid range. My experience of NA cars is they continue to make more power all the way to the top.

As for your fuel code - get that checked out asap as if you suspect cam follower, a busted follower can chew up the cam.
