Rear beam rust Mk5 Ed30
« on: February 16, 2020, 05:56:16 pm »
Hi guys,

Can anyone give me an idea on part numbers around the rear axle assembly.
I have looked with horror at the rust under the rear of the car, having replaced virtually everything at the front.
I’ve bought new discs, pads, stub axles, suspension, drop links etc. Even the big beam things the rear springs sit down into. I’m now looking at the saddle style rear subframe that bolts up.
I’ve found 2 part numbers (the stickers on mine have long since come off with the flaking paint)
1K0500045jp
But 1K0505315BA which is an A3 part looks identical and there are more of these in better Nick.
Anyone know if they’re compatible part numbers.
Thanks in advance. 🤞🏻

Well, I’ve taken a punt on this. Let’s see if it pays off 🤞🏻

sounds like you've been playing "car mechanic simulator" too much and got the bug for renewing/restoring everything

fair play, i'd like to do the same one day. i cant help with part numbers, personally i would have checked with TPS and only brought the part number for my car. But most of the chassis are the same or similar so hopefully it all works out perfect for you.

It's all thick chunky steel and nothing to worry about.  Just flakey surface rust.  Wire brush it off and coat with fluid film afterwards  :happy2:

When I got my Mk5 last year I totally stripped the underneath of the car. High power jet wash to initially clean off all crap and any lose surface rust. Allowed to dry? Then wire brushed all over before covering all metal with cure rust. Underneath was now blue, as the cure rust stabilises the rust. Left for 24 hours to cure then coated the underneath with a mix of spray and brush on under seal and Also used a whole 5LTR pot of waxoyle, to get in all the box sections etc. Man the car stunk for several weeks, but it’s now protected for years and years to come. Well worth doing and made that much easier with my mobile hydraulic ramp
