Buying a MK5 GTI DSG bad idea or not?
« on: March 30, 2020, 10:06:29 pm »
Hi,
Sorry if this has been discussed before, i'm new to thread and don't really know how to work it so didn't find anything of the sort.

However, I am looking to buy a MK5 GTI DSG in the range of 75k to 95k miles. I've seen a lot of talk on the internet saying that DSG's out of warranty are no good as they go bad etc etc. I was wondering would it be stupid to go for a DSG at this mileage? What are your thoughts?
Thanks.
Nat

I doubt any Mk5's are still within warranty

Just check that:
Potential cars have had regular maintenance - DSG service less than 40k miles apart
When you test drive - once warmed up - from stand still it should pull smoothly away with no jerkiness

They are a rewarding drive in the twisties, a joy round town and they are quicker than a manual, can even be re-mapped
- I cant think of a reason not to just do it!

My old mk5 GTi was on 132k and dsg was fine and smooth. Had all its DSG services done on time and was one of the best cars I've had.

136k miles here. One previous owner and FVWSH. 2 DSG OIL & Filter changes at 40 & 90k, 3rd dome by me @ 129k
Box is smooth and changes hardly noticeable and I’m running 352hp 379tq with R-Tech DSG map as well

106k all good, but it is a bit sluggish until oil is warmed up, but great fun, and the dsg farts are great :happy2:
