Resetting PAS yellow light - missing something?
« on: April 07, 2020, 04:23:40 pm »
Hi, hope someone can help me out before I pull the rest of my hair out trying to fix a power steering fault.

Long story short, the yellow power steering light came on during a normal drive a few weeks ago. The steering itself didn’t change or feel any worse.

Checked the usual things, battery, ground points which all seemed fine.

The ABS and traction lights go off as normal after a short drive, just not the yellow PAS light.

Today I tried to reset the light and perform the steering adaption using VCDS following these instructions:

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/VW_Golf_%281K%29_Steering_Assist

After performing 6-7 cycles it hasn’t worked and to make matters worse, the steering has gone really heavy and lumpy so I cannot safely drive it anymore.

Whilst googling the problem I came across this old thread which talked about heaving steering and performing a slight different adaption. Most instructions just say do the adaption on module 60 but this  thread says:

“U need to login to the module using code 40168 and then do basic settings on 60,63 and 66. Login each time before doing basic settings. And then go for a drive and then do the full lock left, right and Straighten steering.”

So what do 63 and 66 do?

My GTI is a 2006, I just wanted to know if anyone has experienced this before and whether I’m missing something?

Thanks in advance.
