I like the front end looks of the 2020 more so than that of the 2021. I'm not a real "Features" sort of guy so new features of the 2021 are of no interest to me...I'm sure others look forward to them. I do like the side skirt of the 2021 more than the 2020. I don't like the swollen mid section of the front bumper nor the lower grille on the 2021. Basically, the 2021 compared to the 2020 to me, is like the MK6 compared to the MK5.

This is the model through 2020 here.

This is going to be the '2021' here in the states.

Right, I agree. I remember the first time I looked at the MK6 GTI. The front grille bits just struck me as odd. It has three different Hex sizes on it and there was gloss on the upper center and matte on the lower....looked all wrong and I couldn't get over it.

OK...where's the damned shifter for the DSG?!

I know it's that thing looking like an old Flip-Phone in the center console, but...REALLY?! How does one upgrade that to a Golf Ball knob?  And it looks difficult to reach and clumsy for manually shifting.  :sad1:

Reading between the lines, I suspect it will be easier to drive faster rather than actually faster. Same engine, enhanced chassis. I guess we need to wait on some more impartial reviews, as much of what I have read this week sounds like PR froth.

It’ll be interesting to see if they choose to make the Clubsport genuinely harder edged (chassis / brakes / seats / wheels etc), which may just be possible given the design team’s backgrounds. All in all though, it seems a somewhat disappointing effort given how long they have taken for development.

I think it looks okay and I think it will grow on me.  I wasn't sold on the mk7 when it launched but love it now.

The worst thing about the mk8 is the wheels.  Both options are horrible! Like really horrible! And previous golfs I have really liked the wheels generally, although I think car wheels in general are getting uglier!

VW are reported to have a major software glitch which will hold up Mk8 Golf and Id3 production
