Can follower
« on: May 25, 2020, 08:32:31 pm »
Hi guys, I’m going to be changing my cam follower this week and I’m after a link for the prt to buy? I know it’s probably been posted on here a thousand times but I can’t find it. Thanks in advance

Thanks mate. I’ve found the part number and when searching that on google it brings up a part for £12. There’s also a lot on awesome gti for £50 so not sure which one I need. Guessing it’s the £50 one 😂

I Used a main dealer replacement when mine was done sorry no prices or part numbers

Be careful if fitting something claiming to be harder wearing and last longer as it may just make the cam lobe wear instead

Get the kit from AKS Tuning, which includes the O ring and 3 x new bolts, which are stretch bolts and need to be replaced.

Coverdale Car Parts on Facebook were doing them for £30.50 last time I checked (genuine ones too). Also pretty sure they come with the bolts and o-ring.

I’ve ordered the part but I’m reluctant to change it myself. I don’t trust myself fiddling around in the engine bay 😬 I’ve just had a quote off my local VW specialist and they’ve said they’ll fit it for £100 which sounds insanely pricey? Bearing in mind I’ll be supplying the part and they’ll just be fitting it. If it’s only a half hour job DIY surely it’s not even that for a specialist? Has anyone ever paid to have it done? If so what sort of price did you pay?

wowsers, £100 is a lot for that job. There is a video on youtube that takes you through the process, view that and see if that makes you more comfortable. If you're going to keep the car for a few years it's worth learning how to change the cam follower to save you money. I've done mine maybe three times in three years/30k miles.

South Wales mate, just outside Cardiff.

Shame... bit too far from Herts, I would have done it for you for £99...

... sorry... I meant free.

£100 is a lot. It should be charged as 30mins labour.

I appreciate the thought mate. My mates dad is a mechanic and he’s done everything on my car since I’ve had it, but I thought I’d check the price at the specialist cause they’ve probably done them quite a lot. He’s replacing the AC compressor on Friday so I’m gonna get him to do the cam follower and DV at the same time. I’m not bothered what he charges me as I know he won’t be ripping me off
