The other toy my beetle project update 25/05/2010
MAT ED30:
Ok well here we go
i bought this car back 2003 from the very first issue of ultra vw magazine, i was on the look out for another bug and this one i liked the look of :rolleye: Its a 1956 RHD oval beetle
as soon as i saw the for sale add i was on the phone to the seller (2 0clock in the aft) and said if its still for sale i will come down now to look :rolleye: so a quick trip to bank to get the ££££ out and me and a mate set off down there to see it and got there around 11 oclock at night :stupid: and i fell in love with it from the sec i looked at it :ashamed:, the deal was done and we set off home and i got as far as sheffield and the gearbox went bang locking up the rear end at 70mph :scared: (oh they have no seatbelts) and i just missed a lamp post :driver: :scared:.I got on the phone to the AA and had the car took home to find out the box had gone bang and snapped a drive shaft in half :rolleye: to say i was lucky is a bit true. The gearbox was pulled out and another crap one fitted that had a whine but it got the car moving to its first dub show.
I was lucky that we were moving to a new house that had a big garage :rolleye: ie i can get 3 cars in there  and so the strip down started :rolleye:
and new part part bought
and i also bought an engine from the states but will get in to that later :rolleye: and while i was on holiday in the states i picked up a new pro street gearbox for the car and then had to wait some time for the new race/short axles to be made
on solid mounts
i got the car back to a rolling car that i could move about :rolleye: and got the engine in and a few other bits on the car to get it to this
and thats about all i did as we had our first child so it got put on hold for a while :rolleye: so after a few years of waiting i heard a mate of mine had opened up his own grg again doing aircooled stuff so i asked him if would like to do it? he said yes bring it up and i will start on it :rolleye:, so me and jhtrophy took the car up on a mates flat bed truck :scared:. The car was stripped back down of everything to make sure all was well with the car and the parts to find out the engine that i had bought years ago 2332cc
was not the best of thing :ashamed: ie heads were crap and would never flow like i needed
u get the idea :rolleye:
the cam was not very wild at all but there was some good stuff in there like a forged crank and a few other bits :rolleye: and so after a good chat with my good mate Mat at vw racing who knows these engines inside out as thats what he did for a living ie built em we got these bits in last week for the new 2332cc mtr
forged rods
better cam/ web cam with cut cam gears and lifters to match the cam(love this bit)
race spec push rods
ratio rockers
and now the heads  all cnc machined
there is lots and lots more to come with this car and i will add pics when i next go up to see it ie when we get to fire the engine up in the car as it will be run on a test bench first and have the 48 dell carbs set up and then we can set all the electric ignition on the car when the mtr is in
:rolleye:
there is so much been done its crazy :rolleye:

:drinking: thanks Nath its never going to be a full on show car as i think every little thing on the car tells its story :rolleye:
