Replacing door scuff plates
« on: June 07, 2021, 01:01:33 pm »
Wanting to replace the scuff plates for my 3 door with the updated ones that have "GTI" in the middle as mine has white worm. Called my local dealer, described what I needed and he said £82 primed... Clearly not the correct piece. Found a part number (1K3 853 538 A) and he said they're not available even from Germany! I don't actually think the part number is correct.

Has anyone replaced theirs recently and has a part number?

Much appreciated! Thanks.

2 door front 'GTI' ones are: 1K3 853 803C 61E. I checked a few sites and they do indeed say they're no longer available. Try the link below, says they can still be ordered.

Alternatively get a set of these: https://lockwoodinternational.co.uk/product/golf-mk5-gti-2-door-sill-protectors-part-no-k116x/

I can well believe they are obsolete. I bought a set of Edition 30 ones not long after I bought my car in 2012, thinking mine were faded, but no - the red trim was the same. Didn't realise at the time that 3 & 5 dr ones were different.

After many years, sold my 5-dr ones to a guy on here a couple of months back who was restoring an ED30 and he said they were obsolete from the dealer.
I guess - just keep an eye on ebay, and VW seem to be slowly adding more and more mk5 stuff to their store in Wolfsburg (https://www.volkswagen-classic-parts.de/en/), so maybe they will crop up on there sometime soon...

Looks as though they have 4-dr trims, but can't see a 3-dr one listed...;

Might work for you, or worth an email over to them?

Thanks Dave, a new website to spend the night on...

They actually have the pre-facelift (I guess) version but only the drivers side... Maybe it fits both sides, doubt it. 127 euros though!  :sad1:
