!!Cured!! Suspect cam chain rattling after new chain fitted

Hi all, it’s been a long time since I’ve used this site and troubles have started after fitting a cam chain on the Tfsi 2.0 gti I used to own.
Rattling coming from VVT cover and the chain is fitted correctly. Any ideas

Unplug the VVT control solenoid and see if the noise goes away.  If it does, the VVT phaser is shot.

I had an in-depth chat with a VW master tech about noises from under the chain cover, in spite of changing the chain, and he said "Yep, it's why we replace the whole lot and not just the chain/tensioner"

What’s the phaser mate?. .

I took the cover off and found TPS gave me the wrong parts for a totally different car so I just put the cover back on without removing the chain or tensioner. The car went away and 30 minutes later the noise was apparent!.  Maybe one of the carbon rings have snapped on refitting?. Also now has a new chain and tensioner but the noise has got worse!.

It's the mega money sprocket bolted to the exhaust cam mate.  The little b1tch of a bolt that always rounds out when removing it  :grin:
