Mk5 GTI - Exhaust replacement
« on: October 11, 2021, 05:22:31 pm »
Hi,

The back section of my exhaust has started to blow around the welded sections. I understand this is quite common at this age.
The genuine part from VW is circa £850 + fitting (£100ish at a specialist).
Are there any decent aftermarket options that aren’t any louder, fit well and are more affordable?
I would ideally like a used genuine one but very hard to find.
Thanks

Check out https://www.powervalve.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=308_398_546_406_411_505&product_id=386 not the cheapest but oem style sound and from what I've heard of them superb quality.

I have same problem but will just be sticking cheapest branded one on e.g scorpion cat back with no resonator for about 460 but that will be louder.

Could always just try longlife exhausts or another exhaust maker, they  could fabricate something and fit it for a cheap-ish price usually. Could also be louder though or different exhaust note?

i managed to find a Jetex cat back for mine on ebay last year
its the non-resonated version.. so only the rear box... but virtually identical to stock system, which is what i was after.

I think the Jetta and Audi A3 TFSIs used the same exhaust, and possibly Passat B6 as well, which might give you more options on ebay.  As you say, MK5 GTI specific oem exhausts are getting hard to find now.

I recently bought the Gravity one off eBay. Build quality is spot on and it sounds pretty much standard. But the fitment is sh*te, it’s perfect through the bends, doesn’t foul the chassis, but the tailpipe alignment was an afterthought.
But it was only £300 for a full stainless catback...

I also got the gravity one off eBay and I can’t fault them at all they put upto 40% sale on every couple month too. I also had one on my mk2 with 20vt in and that was also spot on.
I have my original vw cat back exhaust still, your welcome to have that it’s got surface rust but is solid. I’m based in Durham (north east)
