Need a new wing on my GTi
« on: November 04, 2021, 05:56:41 pm »
Hello, I need to replace my driver's side wing is VW the only place to go? Unfortunately don't know anyone with a TPS trade account any advise welcome.
If anyone can also recommend a good bodyshop in the Watford area as well please. 👍🏻👍🏻

You dont mention reason for replacement.  Is it dent or rust?

If dent I had great service from AVS in Harrow. They tapped out and resprayed a bad dent in my rear quarter panel.  They should also be able to supply a full VW or aftermarket panel if required.

Lots of good comments about painted wings from Lothian Autoparts UK on Ebay:

Not a genuine wing, but people say fit is good - only negatives are slight colour difference, depend how fussy you are.

I literally just got done fitting a Lothian drivers side wing. Colour is spot on (LO41 in my case and comparing to a dirty car ), panel gaps are slightly bigger and had to cut a tiny piece to make fitment slightly better. To be expected really. It's not horrendous.

I asked VW how much for a wing and they said £250 primed, IIRC.

Lothian ones don’t quite line up in my experience and also the paint is thin, but you get what your pay for of course. For the money they are a good deal.

I got both my replacement wings from a car breaker.  The golf they came off was a late model, but the fit and colour match was factory perfect.......with no rust included

I used Charles Trents......they deliver too, but I collected as they are not far from me.

£250 isn't bad for OEM, and it will be a proper galvanised one that will last a hell of a lot longer than a pattern one.

A new wing for my Corrado cost £550+VAT......10 years ago!  Can't get them anymore.  So yeah, MK5s are well cheap to maintain compared to cars like that

I have a Lothian one too - happy with it for the money paid. Needed to reshape it slightly where the bumper bracket fits, once done it fits perfectly.
