Is my car a write off
« on: December 27, 2021, 11:12:23 pm »
My neighbour hit my car when it was parked on my driveway. My rear bumper was dented and my front bumper was damaged since the car lurched forward and hit my wall. The bodywork damage totalled £3800. Will my car be written off? My car is a 2006 Golf GTI DSG with 5 doors, the mileage is 77k miles. On the Admiral website, it says my car is valued at £6000-£6200 in perfect condition but we all know how they try and knock value off your car.

Edit: My car moved forward half a car length while the DSG was in Park (P) with the handbrake on. Will there be any damage to the gearbox? The car moves fine in 1st and reverse. Also, the steering felt heavier than usual when loading the car onto the recovery truck. Any ideas?

I'm guessing yes but buy it back and get it fixed yourself with 2nd hand parts.

Seems a lot of money for repair, any pics of the damage?

Will be written off as soon as the repair costs are more than 50% of the value of the car, especiallywhen they're sub £10K. Did you factor in repair costs of your wall too?
If you're attached to your car then buy it back & repair it on the cheap or by yourself if you're skilled.

Yeah pretty much. Need a front splitter also and the bonnet has some chips on it. Not sure if there is any mechanical damage though. Steering felt heavier after the accident but I'm not sure if that's a mechanical fault. I'm also worried about the dsg box and hope it's not been damaged. It drives in first and reverse fine though.

Was a she and I'm still confused myself as to how hard you can hit a car on a driveway.
