Wits end with Engine light and underlying issue/s
« on: February 05, 2022, 07:11:00 pm »
Hi everyone,

So, 4 weeks ago the engine light came on. No noticeable difference in drive quality.

Went to dealer. Scanned. Fuel pressure issue. They said changing the charcoal filter was needed. Done. Drive for a week. Light was back on again. Scanned again. Same error code. They noticed fuel filter leak and spark plugs were terrible. Both replaced. Drove on and off for a week. Engine light on again. One thing I did notice , that may be the cause, was that I floored it on both occasions, this time coming on to motorway off slip road.

So the costs are mounting. Can’t bear to bring it back and pump more money into the car. It is running well and I love it.

Anyone come across similar issue and have possible remedy? Could it be turbo leak? So many things it could be and if I keep having to go back to garage to get parts replaced it is going to be into £1000s which I truly can’t afford.

Many thanks for any help you can give :-)

C

If you post up the error codes someone on here might be able to advise you better.

always use an indi vag specialist, dealers are incompetent, rescently argued with the head engineer at vw who tryed to tell me that there was no special tool for sealing injectors, also had someone pay over £2000 for new injectors and manifold replacement
to try and cure misfirs and rough running, it was just carbon build up in the end, £270 for walnut blasting.

I will try and find and I do locally. Not really understanding the code thing. I thought it would have been more specific than just highlighting and issue with fuel pressure system or something similar.

Does the eml light only come on when you floor it?

if it was done at dealers they normally give you an invoice for what was found, the fault should be on that if not ring them up and ask for the specific code, if putting your foot down triggers it then im assuming its a requested pressure not met fault but im guessing, is the car driving ok or is its performance reduced or anything?
could be anything from fuel filter to fuel pump, but take it to a vag indi, i was recently getting fuel cuts and misfires scanned with vcds found nothing even though it was running on 3 cylinders at 1 stage, vag specialist found misfires on 2 cylinders but only on exhaust side so after new injectors running like a dream now, when was your cam follower last changed?

No codes on the invoice. Will call them on Monday.

As far as I know, the cam follower was never replaced.

Anyone her from N.I. Having tough time finding good VAG specialist

Won't be able to get codes until Monday but this is what is on first invoice.

Initial scan showed p0441 evap control valve.
Replaced valve; clip; evap canister; breather

Cleared all faults and tested okay.

Second time I went in when light came on just says...
Diagnostic
Removed and replaced fuel filter and spark plugs

Cleared all faults and tested okay.

Now it is back on again.

I really do think it came on when I gave it a bit of welly, unless the system takes time to calculate the emissions etc because I drove it about town all week.

Thanks again for all the advice!

auto technic montgomery road, or ai autosport both in belfast, but havent used either of them, as im in the north west area,
none of those faults have anything to do with fuel pressure, that you mentioned earlier, if the cam follower was never changed i would be pulling it to have a look its a 5 min job,

does the light still come on if you slowly press the throttle down if it only does it when you floor it, is your car standard or tuned
if the light does not come on if your gentle with the throttle then its probably fuel pressure related, if it happens to be a low pressure fuel sensor let me know as i have a spare you can have,
