the reat wiper not working will probably be the wiring behing the ribbed rubber tube in the top corner or the boot when its open,
pull back the rubber gromet and check for breaks, my rear wiper stopped working and it was the wiring i just descibed, check and let me know

Thanks. I think they need to rule out because the boot cannot lock. Then the wiper would not not. Only when the boot is closed/locked, the wiper will work?

Got the car back. Boot latch replaced. Wiper and boot now working. PCV valve sorted. Engine light off. Fingers crossed. Thank you again everyone. Not on here very often and when I am I usually have a problem with the car.

Guy said apart from those two things the car is in good condition. Engine/drive wise it is great. Just the rusted arches make me cry each time I see them lol

Good to know the wings wouldn't be too expensive! Cheers

So after 3 days driving the engine light is back on. End of the road for paying to fix now :-( Wasn't even flooring it. Just general driving.

In the end, it was the Lambda sensor, after investing nearly £1000 in troubleshooting. Gutted.

An 2018 A3 Sportback 1.5l has come up for sale. I may buy it and sell the GTI. Sad times.

I feel your pain.  I spent considerably more than that chasing a rattle, which turned out to be a £10 plastic O ring.  It's how it goes with cars sometimes.
