Arm rest replacement
« on: April 23, 2022, 01:29:17 pm »
The leather (or is it faux pleather?) on my armrest is cracked/crazed and needs replacing.  I don't fancy swapping out the whole frame assembly, so has anyone tried one of these covers?  Looks OK in the pics but are they a bit sh1t shat in real life?  Just literally need to change the leather bit.

The actual leather part of the armrest can be bought and replaced separately. I bought a handbrake cover from that company on eBay and the fitment was shocking.

Lol, OK I'll swerve that then

Yeah I noticed you can unscrew the arm rest bit from the frame, so do VW sell that bit separately?  Would prefer genuine if it's not stupid money.

It's listed in ETKA separately so they should sell it. Otherwise buy a used armrest and swap it over or you could have yours professionally retrimmed.

Thanks mate, I'll look into it.  I can only find cloth ones on ebay but now knowing the top bit is sold separately, that's a good start, cheers  :happy2:

Good to see a vote of confidence in the Golf Pudding!

You can also unclip the outer cover off the frame, iirc the cover is just stapled on - I managed to grab a "leather"one in a scrappy - as usual VW cheaped out, it is not leather.

The plastic panel under the lid pulls off, to then allow the top part to be removed.

Yeah I saw that but it's way overpriced.  Not paying that just to replace the top bit, but cheers anyway  :happy2:

Yeah I'm hanging onto it for a bit until I can make my bloody mind up about what to do next

Yeah I didn't think it was leather

I'm not sure how much they should be?? but there is also a leather lid for sale in the same ad separate without the framework parts?

Oh yeah, just seen that.  Still fairly steeply priced, plus postage on top.  And as we've ascertained in this thread, it's not leather anyway.  I'd rather get a used cloth one from ebay for 20 quid than put that nasty pleather back on
