Thermostats
« on: May 11, 2022, 01:55:56 pm »
Hi, Ive replaced the main thermostat (On the engine block) of my Mk5 GTi DSG. The engine now comes up to temperature but it takes a very long time (About 15 mins) but once there doesnt drop again.

Ive heard there are more than just this thermostat and there are some inline ones, Can anyone point me in the direction of where I would find them?

Cheers in advance
Ryan

Have a look at this;

I think its only the older DSG's that have 3 (Mine is 2008 and has two) but don't hold me to that.

Good thing is its much cheaper to buy than the main stat and also should be able to DIY it.

Are the coolant fans behaving themselves?
If your coolant temperature sensors a faulty the fans will be coming on all the time, stopping the engine getting up to temperature.
After replacing both main and inline thermostats, I still had slower heating up - eventually solved with 2 new temp sensors, I now rarely hear the fans running at all.
