Possibly looking to move on
« on: June 21, 2022, 11:14:05 am »
I'm at a crossroads. I've had my 57 Gti for 2.5 years (86k) and it's been great, but.

It needs.

Timing belt due on age.
Wheels need a refurb.
And an intermitant yellow light ref the steering, but drives fine.
Due an mot too.

Overall condition I would say was good.

I'm thinking of keeping my golf for as long as possible in the hope that second hand electric or hybrid cars come down in price.

This means I have to keep spending on routine maintenance it to keep it running. If I was faced with a large bill I might be tempted to move the car on and jump to something boring.

Maybe have a look around for your next car, if you can't find anything interesting then maybe spend on the golf and keep it another year. Sorting the wheels and yellow dash light might make you love it again.

I'm also looking, after two years with mine I've decided to move on up to a Golf R.

I'll miss my mkV though. If I had space i'd just keep it as it's such a good example.

That's nothing.  Mine needs a new engine, consider yourself lucky.  Mine is literally worthless

As in 900 ish to get the work done is what I meant?
I'd spend that to keep it with that mileage for sure.

Had a compliment from a neighbour this morning about how nice it looked. Cheered me up a bit ha ha.
