traction control light won't go out.
davidjonknight:
Hello. Apologies if this question has already been asked.
I have a Mk5 Golf Gti without an MOT. It has not had one for some time due to different reasons.
I put in for its MOT on Friday and one of the things it failed on is that the traction control light wont go off.
It has had the battery disconnected for some time and the error seems to coincide with that.
Doing a scan with OBD11 shows the steering angle sensor at fault .
The steering wheel icon was originally lit, but this is now out after a reset.
Freem82:
Have you driven it since reset ? It may well go off after a short drive.
davidjonknight:
It’s been driven about 2 miles to the mot garage and back

As Freem82 said, give it a good run and it may well reset. There's also a way to recalibrate the system with a laprop/OBD2 lead and various steering inputs done in a certain order. I'm sure there's a link to it somewhere on here.
I would usually say to check front ABS sensor cables as the ABS and TC are linked but this might not be the case as you're not getting ABS warning. Probably worth a look anyway just to rule it out. :driver:

When I had my battery disconnected to change my plugs the reaction control and steering light came on when I started back up too. It did take a good few miles for them to turn off.
