Wheel Alignment and loose steering feel
(1/1)
Jons1001:
Hi all,
Quite a few months back now my car (standard mk5) felt a bit loose up front. Got the suspension checked and the only thing they could see was slight play in the o/s track rod joint.
Had both track rods replaced yesterday and had the alignment done today and all seems to be good in that respect.
But the light/loose/sloppy steering feel hasn't disappeared. Could it be something that wasn't picked up on the suspension check like a worn steering rack?
Also read that the steering weight can be adjusted in VCDS?
Thanks

Have you checked condition if your tyres? Tyre age, Tread depth, wear pattern, pressure?

Yes all checked. Also had new tyres since this issue started.

My GTI used to feel twitchy over bumps etc. I found the issue to be the rear trailing arm bushes.
Mine were shot and get over looked all the time due to being ymtucked up into the chassis.

Here is one of my old bushes and the car passed an MOT prior to this being removed, but suspect it had been worn out for a while as had worked my way through the rest of the car changing bushes.
then poly bushed them
It hides in here:
