Passenger Door Won’t Open
« on: January 07, 2024, 11:05:18 am »
I’m having huge issues trying to get my front passenger door open. It’s a five door and haven’t had the car long so no idea if the locking/actutor modules have been previously replaced!

I’ve tried the following but still no luck:

1. Disconnected the battery
2. Banging the door whilst simultaneously using key/door locks to unlock
3. Disconnected the cable from the door lock using a pick tool
4. Manually unlock using a coat hanger as per this

Short of cutting into the door skin I’m at a loss as to what to do. I’ve bought a replacement actuator but don’t want a huge bill given VW quoted an hour and a half to replace the actuator buts on the basis they can open the door. MOT is due soon too! Help 😢

Have you tried to open the door from the inside, as that is a different connection in the module.

I had this issue on my wife's Golf before Christmas.....managed to open the door by climbing over to the passengers side and double pulling the handle as the outside one would not respond.  Changed the mech over and been fine since.

I did try that, thanks Mike. It’s booked in next Monday at an Indy so fingers crossed. I’ve bought a replacement actuator for £30 off eBay.

Make sure it is the same PN as what you have, as there are three generations of them on the Mk5

Garage has replaced my front passenger door lock but in doing so have:

1. Ruined the door skin with no end of dents and rippling
2. Marked my brand new glovebox door with what can only be a screwdriver
3. Scratched both inside and outer door panel
4. Bent the door card speaker and now the card looks like it was fitted by a 6 year old.

Genuinely can’t believe it. Yeah it’s a 15 year old car but the condition can only be described as immaculate (it was) and has a mere 28k miles.

I know all of this can be fixed but I’m not looking forward to the conversation with the owner of the garage tomorrow.

Jesus that's piss poor from so called professionals. Me and mrs replaced the window regulator on mine which also involves removing the lock and managed to do it without any damage. Did take all day with a couple of arguments along the way tho! Hope you get it all sorted without hassle, make sure you stand your ground and be clear you want it all replacing.

If it makes you feel any better i ripped two holes in my roof lining last night transporting a fridge freezer ffs. Not a mark on it before that, will be costly to redo  :sad1:

Thanks Jon, sorry to hear about your roof lining mate.

Garage has been great to be fair, can’t fault them whatsoever since the repair. Repaid have been quoted and I’m waiting to hear back. Another door lock regulator has failed since 😂. Door defo needs painting so hope they can match the colour. Contemplating colour coding bumpers and sills + an ED30 front splitter but conflicted on originality and cost…£1k maybe?
