Can adjuster question

(1/2) > >>

thegolfdude:
Hi guys I’m planning on doing a timing chain replacement with everything related to it. I can get the original cam adjuster for around 700 euros but that’s a bit high. Are there any good OE or aftermarket ones?

ROH ECHT:
Not sure who's the original supplier. The genuine VW/Audi 06F109088J is listed for $820usd. Others, on the cheaper side, I see are listed at $50 and up. I suppose I would feel safer with the "genuine" offering; made by one of these A/M companies and marked up. But I would trust an A/M offering from FCP or ECS (here in the states) because they have "Lifetime Warranty" for all parts. Now those warranties don't mean they will cover all of the damage created by a failed part, but it's something at least.

I personally would maybe go with: Febi, Bremmen, or Vaico.

pudding:
No is the short answer I'm afraid.  OEM ones last forever, pattern ones don't unfortunately.

I think it's Hydraulik Ring that make them for VW and I haven't seen them in the aftermarket.

vRSAlex:
I have only every seen problems with the aftermarket ones.  Unless you have a pre 06 car then you probably don't need to change it for a new one.  Just make sure there are no deep grooves in the centre of the adjuster.

Birchy:
@vRSAlex is there an issue with the pre 06 units?

Cheers, Matt
